Invulnerable Centipede『#8_俵藤太物語』

あらすじ

　秀郷はムカデを見ても恐れなかった。彼はムカデに向かって矢を放ったのだが、その矢はムカデを傷つけることができなかった。

Hidesato showed not the least sign of fear.

秀郷は恐れる気配を欠片も見せませんでした。

He tried to calm the Dragon King.

彼はドラゴンキングを落ち着かせることに努めました。

“Don’t be afraid. I shall surely kill the centipede. Just bring me my bow and arrows.”

「恐れてはなりません。私がきっとムカデを退治します。すぐに私の弓と矢を持ってきてください」

The Dragon King did as he was bid, and the warrior noticed that he had only three arrows left in his quiver.

ドラゴンキングは言われた通りにしました。
秀郷は矢筒に残った矢が三本しかないことに気づきました。

He took the bow, and fitting an arrow to the notch, took careful aim and let fly.

彼は弓を掴み、矢をつがえて、慎重に狙いをつけて放ちました。

The arrow hit the centipede right in the middle of its head, but instead of penetrating, it glanced off harmless and fell to the ground.

その矢はムカデの頭の中心に命中しました。
しかし貫くどころか、矢は傷一つつけずに滑って、地面に落ちました。

Nothing daunted, Hidesato took another arrow, fitted it to the notch of the bow and let fly.

MY LORD BAG OF RICE

怯まずに、秀郷はもう一本の矢を掴み、矢を弓につがえて、放ちました。

Again the arrow hit the mark, it struck the centipede right in the middle of its head, only to glance off and fall to the ground.

再び矢は標的に当たりました。矢はムカデの頭の中心に当たりましたが、滑って地面に落ちただけでした。

The centipede was invulnerable to weapons!

そのムカデは武器の攻撃に対してびくともしませんでした！

When the Dragon King saw that even this brave warrior’s arrows were powerless to kill the centipede, he lost heart and began to tremble with fear.

MY LORD BAG OF RICE

勇敢な武人の矢でさえムカデに対して無力であることを知り、ドラゴンキングは心が折れて、恐怖に震えだしました。
