ライオンの自信『#162_The Wonderful Wizard of Oz』

あらすじ

　ライオンは自分の勇気についてオズに尋ねた。
　ライオンについては、自信が無いだけで十分に勇敢であるとオズは答えた。しかし彼が不安そうだったので、明日勇気を与えるとオズは約束した。

オズの魔法使い（対訳）

“But how about my courage?” asked the Lion anxiously.

「私の勇気は？」ライオンが心配そうに尋ねました。

“You have plenty of courage, I am sure,” answered Oz.

「あなたは十分勇敢だと思います」オズが答えました。

“All you need is confidence in yourself.

There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger.

The True courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.”

「本当の勇気は、怖くても危機に向き合うことです。そしてあなたはその勇気を十分に持っています」

“Perhaps I have, but I’m scared just the same,” said the Lion.

「持っているかもしれません。しかし、それでも怖いのです」ライオンが言いました。

“I shall really be very unhappy unless you give me the sort of courage that makes one forget he is afraid.”

「恐怖を忘れさせる勇気を与えてくれないのであれば、私はきっととても不安になります」

“Very well, I will give you that sort of courage tomorrow,” replied Oz.
