アキノスケの夢（対訳）

But in the twenty-fourth year of his governorship, a great misfortune came upon him; for his wife, who had borne him seven children,—five boys and two girls,—fell sick and died.

KWAIDAN

　しかし、任期の二十四年目に、大きな不幸が彼に降りかかりました。彼の妻が病気にかかり亡くなったのです。彼女はアキノスケとのあいだに五人の息子と二人の娘をもうけました。

She was buried, with high pomp, on the summit of a beautiful hill in the district of Hanryoko; and a monument, exceedingly splendid, was placed upon her grave.

KWAIDAN

　彼女は華々しく埋葬されました。ハンリョコ地域にある美しい丘の頂に。そして見事な記念碑が彼女の墓の上に建てられました。

But Akinosuke felt such grief at her death that he no longer cared to live.

KWAIDAN

　しかしアキノスケは彼女の死をとても悲しんで、生きる気力がなくなりました。

Now when the legal period of mourning was over, there came to Raishu, from the Tokoyo palace, a shisha, or royal messenger.

KWAIDAN

　喪に服す期間が終わると、トコヨの宮殿から使者がライシュにやって来ました。

The shisha delivered to Akinosuke a message of condolence, and then said to him:—

KWAIDAN

　その使者はアキノスケに弔意を伝えて、それから言いました。

"These are the words which our august master, the King of Tokoyo, commands that I repeat to you:

KWAIDAN

「これは我らの主人、トコヨの王があなたに伝えるようにと命じた言葉です」

'We will now send you back to your own people and country.

KWAIDAN

『我々はあなたを国へ送り返します』

As for the seven children, they are the grandsons and granddaughters of the King, and shall be fitly cared for.

KWAIDAN

『七人の子供たちについては、彼らは国王の孫息子と孫娘であり、適切に面倒を見ます』

Do not, therefore, allow your mind to be troubled concerning them.'"

KWAIDAN

『だから、彼らについては心配無用です』
