平家の歌『#8怪談＿耳なし芳一』対訳

あらすじ

ホウイチが案内された部屋には、彼の席が用意されていた。ホウイチが席に座って準備を整えると、侍女頭と思しき女性の声が貴人の求める歌の内容を伝えてきた。
その内容すべてを歌うには幾晩も必要だったので、どの場面を歌うべきかホウイチが問うと、彼女は壇ノ浦の戦いを歌うように言った。

After having taken his place upon it, and tuned his instrument, the voice of a woman—whom he divined to be the Rōjo, or matron in charge of the female service—addressed him, saying,—

座布団に座り、琵琶の調律が終わると、女性の声がホウイチに話しかけた。ホウイチは彼女をロウジョ、すなわち侍女頭であると推測した。

“It is now required that the history of the Heiké be recited, to the accompaniment of the biwa.”

Now the entire recital would have required a time of many nights: therefore Hōïchi ventured a question:—

“As the whole of the story is not soon told, what portion is it augustly desired that I now recite?”

The woman’s voice made answer:—
