Scratch『#6_ピーターラビットのおはなし』

あらすじ

　庭の出口を探す途中、ピーターは池でネコを見つけた。ネコについて多少知っていたので、彼は話しかけることなくその場を去った。その時、突然物音を聞いてピーターは隠れた。音の正体を確認すると、ミスターマクレガーがいた。そして庭の出口も見つけた！

　そのあと、ピーターは道が庭の外に続いているのか知ろうとしました。
　しかし、彼は余計に困惑することとなりました。

Presently, he came to a pond where Mr. McGregor filled his water-cans.

　少しして、ピーターはミスターマクレガーが水を汲む池に到着しました。

A white cat was staring at some gold-fish, she sat very, very, very still, but now and then the tip of her tail twitched as if it were alive.

　一匹の白猫が金魚をじっと見ていました。
　白猫はまったく動きませんでしたが、時々彼女の尻尾の先端がまるで生きているかのように動きました。

Peter thought it best to go away without speaking to her; he had heard about cats from his cousin, little Benhamin Bunny.

　ピーターは考えました。話すことなく離れるのが良さそうだと。
　彼はネコについて聞いたことがありました。従弟のベンジャミンバニーから。

He went back towards the tool-shed, but suddenly, quite close to him, he heard the noise of a hoe-scr-r-ritch, scratch, scratch, scritch.

　ピーターは物置小屋の方へ戻っていきました。
　しかし突然、すぐ近くで、クワで掘る音が聞こえました。

Peter scuttered underneath the bushes.

　ピーターは茂みに駆け込みました。

But presently, as nothing happened, he came out, and climbed upon a wheelbarrow and peeped over.

　しかし少しして、何も起きなかったので、ピーターは茂みから出てきました。
　そして手押し車に登って、覗き見ました。

The first thing he saw was Mr. McGregor hoeing onions.

　最初に、玉ねぎを掘っているミスターマクレガーが見えました。

His back was turned towards Peter, and beyond him was the gate!

　ミスターマクレガーの背中がピーターの方に向けられていました。
　そして彼の向こう側に庭の出口がありました！
