あらすじ

　ヘイスティングスは私の部屋の豪華さに驚いていた。私は彼に酒を進めて、彼の仕事で何が起きたのか尋ねた。
　ところが、彼はもう一度聞きたいのかと私に尋ねた。どうやら、ミス・ランガムとの出会いで舞い上がっていた道中で、私は彼の話を聞いていたらしい。

‘Not a bite for me; I’m past it. I can’t eat, these days; but I’ll drink with you till I drop. Come!’
