ネズミのテール『#32不思議の国のアリス』対訳

あらすじ

ネズミは長く悲しい物語(tale)だと言って、自分の物語をアリスに話し始めた。
アリスはそれを聞いて不思議に思った。なぜ長く悲しい尻尾(tail)と呼んだのだろうかと。

「長く悲しい物語です！」ネズミが言って、アリスの方を向き、ため息をついた。

“It is a long tail, certainly,” said Alice, looking down with wonder at the Mouse’s tail; “but why do you call it sad?”

「確かに、長い尻尾ですね。しかし、どうして尻尾を悲しいと思うのです？」
アリスはネズミの尻尾を不思議そうに見おろした。

And she kept on puzzling about it while the Mouse was speaking, so that her idea of the tale was something like this:—

      breath.’
        ‘I’ll be
        judge, I’ll

         cunning

「フューリーがネズミに言った。彼は家の中でそのネズミを見つけたのだ。
『法廷で争いましょう。私はあなたを起訴します。
こっちに来なさい。拒否は認めません。裁判をしなければなりません。
本当に、今朝、私は仕事が１つもないのですから』」

「ネズミはその嫌な奴に言いました。
『陪審も裁判官もいない裁判は我々の時間を浪費します』」

「『私が裁判官と陪審になります』老獪な、嫌な奴が言いました。
『私が全てをこなして、あなたに死刑を宣告しましょう』」
